Tuscany is probably the most famous of Italy’s regions. There are so many reasons to discover this beautiful land. Many come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs visit on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet delicious cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands.

Come to enjoy incredibly beautiful landscapes of Tuscany as well as its rich artistic legacy and vast influence on high culture. Tuscany is widely regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and has been home to some of the most influential people in history, such as Petrarch, Dante, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo Galilei, Amerigo Vespucci and Puccini. Due to this, the region has several museums, most of which (such as the Uffizi and the Pitti Palace) are found in Florence, but others in towns and smaller villages. Tuscany has a unique culinary tradition, and is famous for its wines: most famous of which are Chianti, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino.

Luminaria di San Ranieri

Every year, on the evening of June 16 is organized the great Luminaria di San Ranieri.

This tradition dates back to the March 25 1688, when the urn containing the body of the saint patron of the city, St Rainier of the Scaccieri, was solemnly placed in the chapel of the Cathedral of Pisa.

From this day, a wonderful celebration of light is organized by the inhabitants of Pisa on the eve of the day of the Patron Saint. About seventy thousands candles are set in special holders for the occasion. But the “Luminaria” is more than that, in fact during the afternoon many volunteers light candles that are lit and floated down to the river. We highly recommend you to see this impressive shiny river!
